The First Lightning Safety Step – Lightning Audit

Spring and summer are peak season for one of nation’s deadliest weather phenomena – lightning. But don’t be fooled, lightning can strike any time of the year and even during a snowstorm. LEC have been providing lightning protection for over 45 years.  You need to take lightning safety measures in advance and one of the first steps is to get your lightning protection system audited and update regularly.

Lightning hazards continue to threaten the safety of people and property in the form of shocks, burns, injury, fire and even explosion – these risks have to be managed effectively.

The lightning safety audit is an investigative process that measures lightning conditions against standards to determine the most cost-effective changes for major improvements in a lightning protection strategy.

Our lightning safety audit is carried out utilizing all national and international lightning standards. Our strategic approach and structured methodology take into account critical issues in an integrated, coherent, systematic and holistic manner. This includes a risk and technical assessment followed by design, planning and its maintenance recommendations.

Our process:

  • We first evaluate the type of structures within the facilities, there construction and mission critical components.
  • Then the characteristics are taken into consideration – outside and inside systems, persons present, explosion and fire risks, etc
  • Lightning frequency in the area – Few areas in the United States are free from thunderstorms while few others have more than their fair share of storms. This is an important process as it determines the lightning protection design and its installation.
  • We further check the standard and custom power lines
  • Evaluate risk parameters and lightning safety cost.
  • Finally, the lightning safety audit report is submitted which aims to reduce maintenance cost, improve reliability and increase personal safety.

Lightning strike causes an electromagnetic pulse which can often result in major equipment damage, critical data loss, and lost business opportunities. Negate the risk and opt for a complete, comprehensive lightning safety audit.
