Properly Applying Lightning Protection System in the Healthcare Industry

Lightning on a healthcare facility can be catastrophic. It can knock out, disable or even destroy electronic equipment essential to a health care facility's day to day operations. Life support, imaging, safety, security and communication systems depend on digital circuits that cannot withstand lightning’s hundred million volts.

Many facilities assume electrical systems are protected when grounded according to the National Electric Code – but this does not address lightning protection. Even an ordinary thunderstorm can cause the problem to a health care facility’s electrical system.

Though the risk is less to a low-rise outpatient facility in a dry region than that of a multi-storied healthcare center in an area prone to a frequent thunderstorm, all structures in every region are vulnerable, hence the need of a lightning protection.

The basic

Lightning protection provides a path to safely conduct lightning’s electrical charge from the top of a structure into the ground. Air terminals are installed on the roof and connected with conductors approved for lightning protection. These conductors lead from the roof to the ground level and connected to a ground terminal to provide an electrically continuous path to the ground.

In addition to direct lightning strikes, a building is subject to electrical surges due to strikes that occur outside the building. These surges send high voltage current spikes through power, telephone and utility lines; thus surge protectors at service entrance is mandatory.

Lightning Eliminators & Consultant inc. lightning protection systems work the same way yet provide additional protection.  Our system negates the electrical currents within the protected area, eliminating the causes for a lightning to strike. This product is our patented Dissipation Array System (DAS). The DAS is designed with a combination of different multipoint ionizer to reduce the electric field intensity; eliminating the strike within the protected area.

Moving on

To ensure the lightning protection system installed is functioning properly, inspection and compliance are mandatory. This includes direct strike protection as well as grounding and surge solutions.

In addition, each DAS design is engineered to be the most effective protection for each site, and comes with our “no strike” warranty. – This ensures complete protection on all LEC supervised installation.

We are successfully serving the health care industries for decades--"Lightning Eliminators".
